Understanding Project 2025

On August 4th Five Star Women of Color hosted an important call discussing Project 2025 and how it will affect the black community.

On the call we had a few experts discussing some key topics within Project 2025

Betty Clark,2nd Vice President at The League of Women Voters of Baltimore City opened up the discussion with an overview of what project 2025 is.

Delegate Jennifer White Holland, Maryland State Delegate discussed information about Health Care Policy.

Dr. Crystal Francis, Executive Vice President at Maryland Alliance for Justice Reform discussed Department of Justice from a policy perspective.

Khalilah Harris EdD, JD, Executive Vice President of Program Strategy at Center for Policy Equity spoke on Department of Education/Education Policy.

And Danyell Winkey-Smith, Black Women for positive Change (Baltimore County Chair) & Win with Black Women closed us out with a recap and a call to action.

Review the video of the Dr. Crystal Francis, Khalilah Harris EdD, JD and Danyell Winkey-Smith speaking on their topics.

Here are a few questions and answers that came up on the call.

Question for Dr. Frances:  Can the Supreme Court overrule the House and Senate?

Answer: The Supreme Court can't directly change, or block laws made by Congress, but it can declare those laws unconstitutional if they violate the Constitution. When this happens, Congress has to either fix the law to meet the Court's requirements or change the Constitution itself.

Question for Dr. Harris: Isn't "Agenda 47" (which is the Republicans' currently-approved 2024 Platform and which Trump himself has personally approved) in essence a  policy-focused executive summary of Project 2025?

Answer: The short answer is yes
